Drug-taking, fast-living Princess Eleanor and Prince Liam join their parents King Simon and Queen Helena of England for the funeral of their elder brother Robert, heir to the throne, killed in a mysterious accident. Liam is comforted in more ways than one by Ophelia, daughter of widowed head of security Ted, to the disgust of his mother, who despises her surviving children. To the annoyance of his scheming brother Cyrus and Cyrus's stupid daughters the honest Simon considers a referendum to abolish the monarchy, believing that duty was responsible for Robert's death and not wanting the same for Liam. Liam is thus happy to be seen in public with Ophelia but Eleanor's attempt to seduce her new young bodyguard Jasper backfires when he secretly films her drug-fuelled partying and holds it over her to keep his job. As Jasper continues his hold over Eleanor and her mother bans her from using social media due to her vulgar messages, the Royals hold a garden party to officially end the mourning for Prince Robert. Liam is less than pleased to see that one of the (self-) invited guests is his catty ex-girlfriend Gemma, who dumped him before he became heir to the throne. Gemma indulges in a drinking contest with Ophelia, who loses, and Liam, whilst popular with the crowd, annoys his mother by missing appointments to look after Ophelia. King Simon, anxious to avoid the ceremony, helps palace maid Prudence, confiding in her his desire to be ordinary. After the guests have left Queen Helena keeps a tryst with her war hero lover Captain Lacey whilst Cyrus blackmails the closet gay politician James Holloway into doing something to 'help' the queen. As London Fashion Week starts the queen plans her annual show at the palace but is sabotaged by Eleanor, who plans to stage one of her own. When Helena discovers her daughter's proposed venue and moves in on it Eleanor, advised by Jasper, turns it back on her by moving it to the palace. Helena is not amused but supports Eleanor for the good of the family's public image. King Simon decides to postpone the referendum to abolish the crown in order to give Liam a chance to show himself to be a suitable heir. The King is impressed but Cyrus is jealous and lets Liam know he is aware of the fact that a drugged up Gemma crashed the car in which the young prince was travelling and from which Jasper removed him. Liam goes on his first walkabout tour of English villages , with his mother, Gemma - whom the queen has chosen as her lady-in-waiting - and the resentful Cyrus. Initially Liam, standing on protocol, is awkward and makes mistakes but, having been told to be himself by Gemma, he starts to listen to people and is well-received. The queen on the other hand is confronted by a local distiller who rants at her and calls her a patronizing bitch. Eleanor is also touring - some of Robert's charities. High on 'E's she is consequently friendly and out-going and scores a success at a retirement home and an animal shelter whilst a visit to a drug rehabilitation unit hits home at her own situation. Ophelia spends a pleasant day with Nick which Liam notes and is consoled by Gemma whilst Cyrus and the queen continue plotting against the abdication, observing on the television news that a certain distillery has burned to the ground. In the king's absence the queen holds the annual masquerade ball but, after a lavish entrance, slips away for a romantic picnic with her secret lover, childhood sweetheart Alistair. Gemma accompanies Liam to the ball but, whilst he gets on well with Nick, Ophelia's escort, the young prince is plainly jealous and invites Ophelia to spend a weekend in Monaco with him. Eleanor is angry when, to prove his power over her, Jasper refuses sex with her but is she is unable to go through with his challenge - to announce publicly that he is blackmailing her. This idea does not sit well with many in the royal family, especially the sultry queen (Elizabeth Hurley). Liam continues to publicly escort Ophelia, despite pictures of her in Monaco featuring in the tabloid press. Cyrus attempts to dissuade Simon from the idea of abdication whilst Helena's imperious mother, Alexandra, Grand Duchess of Oxford, visits - aware of her daughter's infidelities and also leaning on her to influence the king. However they are all too late to stop him from broadcasting his intentions on national television. As the king recovers from surgery after being stabbed accusations fly, with Eleanor and Liam accusing Cyrus of involvement and Ophelia claiming to have seen him near the crime scene. Cyrus denies involvement but still leans on married lover James Holloway for an alibi. The queen acts swiftly, demanding Ted's dismissal and preparing a credible press bulletin but Eleanor, having realized that Jasper had sex with her mother, has him arrested. Liam is about to take an oath swearing him in as Prince Regent but the ceremony is interrupted by Cyrus, who claims that Liam and his sister are not Simon's children, making him the true heir to the throne. As DNA tests prove Cyrus right - Eleanor and Liam are not Simon's children - Eleanor accuses her mother of murdering Robert but is told that he committed suicide. Power hungry Cyrus prepares to be king, ordering Ted to find the hooded man in the CCTV video and giving his married lover as his alibi for Simon's stabbing. Helena also instructs Liam's bodyguard Marcus to find the mystery man. She is well aware of Cyrus's gay secret and summons anti-Royalist Nigel Moorefield to see her, preparing a scenario of her own should anything happen to Cyrus. Eleanor, having been barred from seeing Simon in hospital as she is 'not family', has an encounter with a young man who tells her that he killed Robert and arranges to meet her to tell her the full story. Each character faces truth in the season finale. You find out what really happened to Prince Robert and by the end of the episode someone else will join him. Ophelia and Liam make a decision regarding their relationship and their future together. The Queen and Prince Cyrus grow distrustful towards each other which grows more evident in this episode. A lot of heartbreaking moments. Throughout the episode a lot of questions are answered as many more door are opened.
