The Wisher has obviously been inspired by many other horror movies all with
a higher quality than we witness here. Starting with Nightmare on Elm Street
to The Ring or even In The Mouth of Madness along with some Scream and of
course The Wishmaster there's plenty to identify and have a good laugh with.
Mary is a teenager obsessed with fear and horror movies. She loves the adrenalin and goes as far as to feel sexually aroused by it. She also sleepwalks and has horrible dreams filled with blood and violence. There's a hot new movie called the Wisher that promises the biggest scares ever so against her father's will Mary goes to see it with her friends. A few minutes later she feels sick and throws up. After that her life gets turned upside down. Every time she wishes for something it happens but in a wrong way or maybe in a too literal fashion. If she wishes she could skip school the building erupts in fire for example. Also she starts seeing the character `The Wisher' from the movie following her around. Is it the supernatural or has someone seen the movie one too many times?
Ok we all know creativity doesn't exactly run free in horror so who cares about the story. Yes the characters are stupid and Mary is very annoying but that doesn't really matter. So on to the real deal! There's some nice gore and two cool deaths but nothing extraordinary. The acting is not that bad. The girls are hot and wear short skirts meaning there are long legs on camera often. You can also count with a few seconds of natural breasts and a firm butt from some nice blond. Nothing to get excited about unless you're a teenager with a lot of angry hormones but still adds to the movie's value! No doubt about it. I mean if you're a guy or not well anyway it's not bad in the flesh department even without a sex scene, which is a shame. Liane Balaban is a good scream queen and I actually thought she was very cute. The ending is OK and we get the usual sequel promising last shot that's always funny. It could have been a better film and we can't help but notice that TV movie look about it but it still provides for some entertainment. I've seen far worse horror movies so I have to recommend it. Too bad there's not alot of suspense or scares though.
Final Word: TW is flawed but with some charm. Watch it if you're bored.
