This is an engrossing 124 minute film that seems to fly by. It never stops. The documentary-like approach to the tale of the Neopolitan rebellion against the occupying Nazi forces in the last days of WW II is embellished with many emotionally-laden vignettes that bring home the hellish effects of war on every day life. Nanni Loy's direction is extraordinary, from the small family scenes to the many many crowd scenes -it must have been a gargantuan task, expertly handled. The cinematography is superb and the editing keeps us both interested and holding on to the sides of our seats in this non-stop roller coaster ride. See it.
