Before leaving town with Tom Gemma sends Kate a token to suggest Simon's infidelity, which, as planned, worries her, to the extent that she locates Gemma. During a confrontation witnessed by Kate's parents Kate appears to have the upper hand, despite Gemma telling her that Simon has put everything in his wife's name but she is still angry with Simon and lets him know it. The ever-vengeful Gemma builds on this, leading to Kate taking her daughter and leaving Simon homeless.
